Hindi Rang Manch staged their first production, "Pighalti Deewaren" A Hindi Play on March 24th and 25th, 2108 at the Durham Arts Council. The production was inspired by a play written by author and feminist Mannu Bhandari, and was directed by Mrs. Nileena (Nina) Pani Dash. Nina also starred in the play along with Pritesh Kasliwal, Neelu Pandey, Ketan Deodhar, Nandini Dasgupta, Kailash Pant and Rukmini Majumdar. Music was composed & sung by Bharati Javalkar and lights and sounds were managed by Ravi Devrajan & Madhan S. Raj.
"Pighalti Deewaren" is about a woman finding her self-respect and identity. Even though times have changed, there are still those who belittle and offend women openly. This play brings out her struggles as she faces the unwillingness to adapt to changing gender roles. It also brings out the undeniable love that is the root of all relationships. Everyone in the audience was able to identify themselves or someone they know in a character. Gripping story and emotional family drama kept the audience interested till the end. Both the shows were very successful and sold out. The entire team received many positive feedbacks about the play. The team is planning another show in summer or fall on audience request.
