Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta will celebrate the Golden Jubilee (‘Swarnim Gujarat’) commemorating 50th Anniversary of formation of Gujarat State for the Asian American community residing in the State of Georgia on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday September 12, 2010 at “Sardar Patel Bhavan,” home of Gujarati Samaj in Tucker, Georgia.
Among all the states in Union of India the State of Gujarat has emerged as a model state in many ways. The progress and achievements of State of Gujarat is envious to even some developed nations.
The excitement and preparations are underway. The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta had invited all the leading Indian organizations of Atlanta and sought their support in this undertaking. This event, therefore, is spearheaded by Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta, but belongs to all the Asian-American community.
Founded in 1981 with 10 to 15 families, Gujarati Samaj Inc. today has close to 1000 paid family members and a 40,000 sq. ft. building in Tucker, Georgia and has been serving the local community for past 30 years.
The Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta along with their regular cultural programs, has undertaken a new and challenging program called “Swarnim Gujarat” celebrations under the leadership of current president Vipul Patel and program coordinator long time dedicate volunteer – currently BOG Ramesh Pandya. During this celebration Gujarati Samaj will also celebrate a dedication of a bust of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who is also known as "the Iron man" of India.
The exhibition on rich cultural heritage of State of Gujarat includes scientists, literary figures, saints, researchers, businessmen and patriots with special focus on Gandhiji and Sardar Patel.
Dr. Sudhir Parikh, well-known philanthropist has agreed to honor the event. The current NFIA president C. K. Patel of California has agreed to grace this event. Dr. Dhaduk, known neurologist and Chairman of Saurastra Cultural Samaj of USA has agreed to attend as well as H. R. Shah of TV Asia has agreed to attend this event. The organization also has been working closely with Government of Gujarat and hopefully their delegation would attend the event.
Interestingly, Swarn Kalash arrived on August 15, 2010 and was welcomed by leaders of Gujarati Samaj at “Sardar Patel Bhavan”.
The saints of Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) will perform appropriate puja of Swarnim Kalash, and bless the congregation on September 11, 2010.
There will be commemorative souvenir with informative articles on State of Gujarat and Gujarati Samaj, Atlanta for people to cherish for years to come.
